INSIGNIFICANTLY SIGNIFICANT

INSiGINIFICANTLY SIGNIFICANT 2020 - 2022.

Our deepest memories are often connected to places, places that often transport us straight back to the feeling and circumstances for which they were experienced. The project ‘Insignificantly Significant’ engaged with people who had personal memories attached to places around the Inner- West. At its heart, a selected 10 of 170 odd memories submitted by the community were chosen to be celebrated, each selected memory was handwritten and then engraved and cast in bespoke bronze plaques and installed around the community. These 10 engraved memories were then fixed to the site-specific areas where they were originally experienced and they have and will be viewed with unanticipated surprise as they are found in unexpected places of ponder around the Inner-West for many years to come from Enmore to Ashfield and around these personal memories provide an unexpected connection to each other in the community.

This project was made possible by the Inner West Creative and Cultural Resilience Grant. While the casting of the plaques was done by Sculptor Michael. Vaynman and of course many thanks to all the wonderful participants and people who submitted and shared their memories and the project to help realise this idea.

The project has been recognised recently, being shortlisted for the prestigious IPAA - International Public Art Award for 2023.
